Three Pele Trust Staff Shortlisted for Regional Finals

Overview

We’re thrilled to announce that three talented chefs from Pele Trust: Steven Million, Michael Clements, and Malachy Rowe, were shortlisted for the regional finals of the prestigious LACA School Chef of the Year 2025 competition.

Organised by LACA, the School Food People, and sponsored by Bisto from Premier Foods Foodservice, this national competition celebrates the incredible skills of school chefs across the country. It highlights the important role they play in delivering nutritious and delicious meals to students every day.

Competitors had to prepare, cook and present four portions of a main course and dessert with a total food cost of £1.70 per head in 90 minutes that meet the School Food Standards and Eat Well Guide.

We’re incredibly proud of Steven, Michael, and Malachy for being shortlisted for this competition!

Malachy Pharncote-Rowe came third place and we are blown away with his efforts. He explained, “I am absolutely buzzing with coming third. To see this standard being replicated across the regions is fantastic. It’s nice to see North East representation with second and third place." He explained to the judges, “ I work in a languages school and I wanted to showcase our integration with the curriculum. We do French, Italian and German showcases.”

Head judge, Louise Wagstaffe, added, "We’ve had an amazing competition this year. The standard has been excellent, and all the chefs have crafted a fantastic selection of dishes. They’ve showcased true innovation while managing costs, demonstrating great culinary skills, allergen awareness and an understanding of how to scale food that’s both suitable and appealing for pupils within a school environment."

Congratulations to our shortlisted chefs, Steven and Michael, and our finalist, Malachy.
