Transforming Longhoughton CE Primary School’s Outdoor Spaces
Overview
Longhoughton CE Primary School has undertaken a series of planned site enhancements designed to improve safety and enrich learning in Early Years.
The Early Years outdoor area has now been completely transformed thanks to funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund. This exciting project has created a high-quality outdoor space that is much larger than before, featuring all-weather surfaces and a sheltered area. As a result, the school now has a wonderful early years area where pupils can learn, explore and play throughout the year, no matter the weather.
The redeveloped area includes new equipment designed to encourage imaginative and investigative play, while supporting speech, language and communication development. Children also have access to larger equipment that helps build strong gross motor skills throughout the day.
“The project has created a fantastic learning space for our youngest children. Our curriculum is built around high-quality outdoor learning opportunities; our Early Years pupils now have an environment where they can explore, investigate, play and imagine every day, all year round, which is vital for their growth and development. We are very grateful to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund for making this renovation possible.” said Matt Hetherington, Headteacher.
As part of this programme of improvements, Pele Trust have funded the installation of a new secure perimeter fence around the school grounds. These enhancements represent an important investment in the Longhoughton community, supporting both safety and outstanding learning environments. We look forward to seeing how Longhoughton CE Primary School makes the most of these enhanced spaces to support learning and development.
